About the application:

True or Nonsense Word? is an apk that can be used to assist assess beginning and struggling readers. You can use this apk for whole group instruction, little group instruction, one-on-one instruction and even in literacy centres. Sometimes students will guess at words and pay tiny attention to the actual letters they are seeing, another than the beginning sound or having memorized the words rather than learning to sound them out. Practice with nonsense words can improve a student’s ability to decode individual phonemes and then blend them together to read. Students who can decide if the word is a true word or a nonsense word are starting to build their primary comprehension. The teacher or the student will select which centre they would like to do. Once in the centre, the teacher or the student touches the numbers in order to bring up random letters. The student can write down each word on a recording sheet and decide if the word is a true word or a nonsense word.
