About the application:

Starting on April 6th, we are seeking MIT and Harvard graduate student, staff, family/alumni/friends and similar participants for a research study conducted by the Mobile Carbon Footprinting research group at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). The purpose of our study is to pilot a phone apk that helps individuals and communities understand and manage their carbon footprints due to daily activities. We invite you to assist us discover the potential of fresh digital technologies in sensing and understanding our everyday energy use. We anticipate that this study will lead to publicly accessible programs for community engagement in climate mitigation planning and private carbon footprinting. The study consists of four parts: 1. Installing the phone apk and completing an initial survey (20 minutes) 2. Running the phone apk to automatically collect a two-week activity timeline, then using the apk to confirm the timeline info (less than 2 mins a day) 3. Viewing the carbon footprint feedback in the apk, while running the apk and confirming the activity diary for other two weeks (less than 2 mins a day) 4. Complete the follow-up survey (10 minutes) Eligible participants who successfully complete the apk pilot will keep a $15 incentive and will be invited to a short interview, for an extra incentive.
